The process is simple. You and your co-workers must sign authorization cards in order for the Union to petition for an election. The Union will need a minimum of 30% of signatures in order to file with the Labor Board. Your cards are confidential.
You'll decide by secret ballot vote conducted by the NLRB if you want the Union to begin negotiations with your Company. A “YES” vote will give you the chance to proceed. VOTE YES! The company does NOT know how you voted. It's your and your co-workers election, not the company's.
The Union and the Company meet to exchange proposals and come to an agreement. Afterwards, you will meet to discuss and vote (by secret ballot) on the proposed contract. If rejected, we go back into negotiations. If accepted, wage rates and all new benefits begin as of the contract date.
